71st Regiment Infantry

Organized at Black River Bridge and Natchez, Miss., and Alexandria, La., March 3 to August 13, 1864. Attached to District of Natchez, Miss., District of Vicksburg, Miss.

79th Regiment Infantry (Old)

Organized April 4, 1864, from 7th Corps de Afrique Infantry. Attached to 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Corps de Afrique, Dept. of the Gulf, to June, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, Corps de Afrique, Dept. of the Gulf, to July, 1864.

SERVICE.--Post and garrison duty at Port Hudson, La., until April 17, 1864, and at Fort Pike and Fort Macomb, Defenses of New Orleans, until July, 1864. Broken up July 28, 1864, and transferred to 75th United States Colored Troops. A new 79th United States Colored Troops ordered organized by consolidation of 80th and 83rd United States Colored Troops at New Orleans, La., July, 1864, but not completed.

79th Regiment Infantry (New)

Organized from 1st Kansas Colored Infantry December 13, 1864. Attached to 2nd Brigade, District of the Frontier, 7th Corps, Dept. of Arkansas, to January, 1865. Colored Brigade, 7th Corps, to February, 1865. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 7th Corps, to August, 1865. Dept. of Arkansas to October, 1865.

SERVICE.--Duty at Fort Smith, Ark., until January, 1865. Skirmish at Ivey's Ford January 8. Ordered to Little Rock January 16. Skirmish at Clarksville, Ark., January 18. Duty at Little Rock, Ark., until July, and at Pine Bluff until October. Mustered out at Pine Bluff, Ark., October 1, 1865, and discharged at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, October 30, 1865.

80th Regiment Infantry

81st Regiment Infantry

Organized April 4, 1864, from 9th Corps de Afrique Infantry. Attached to 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Corps de Afrique, Dept. of the Gulf, to July, 1864. Consolidated with 88th and 89th United States Colored Troops July 6, 1864, to form new 77th United States Colored Troops.
