Organized at Camp Randall, Madison, Wis., and mustered in October 21, 1862.

SERVICE.--Duty at Green Bay, West Bay and other points in Wisconsin, enforcing draft, etc., until March, 1863. Headquarters of Regiment at Camp Randall until December 26, 1862, then at Camp Reno, Milwaukee, Wis. Companies "D" F," "I" and "K" ordered to St. Louis, Mo., May 2, 1863. Guard boats and supplies for Sully's Northwestern Indian Expedition up the Missouri River until August. Companies "I" and "K" ordered to Milwaukee. Companies "D" and "F" at Farm Island, and fatigue duty building Fort Sully until December, 1863. 40th Regiment Infantry

41st Regiment Infantry

43rd Regiment Infantry

Organized at Madison, Wis., and mustered in by Companies August 8 to September 30, 1864. Left State for Nashville, Tenn., October 10. Attached to Defenses of Nashville & Northwestern Railroad, Dept. of the Cumberland, to December, 1864. 3rd Brigade, Defenses Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad, to March, 1865. 3rd Brigade, 1st Sub-District, District of Middle Tennessee, Dept. of the Cumberland, to June, 1865.

SERVICE.--Stationed at Johnsonville, Tenn., guarding railroad and supplies October 15-November 30. Repulse of attack on Johnsonville November 4-5. Moved to Clarksville, Tenn., November 30, thence to Nashville, Tenn., December 28, and to Dechard January 1, 1865. Guard duty at Elk River Bridge and along line of the Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad until June. Mustered out June 24, 1865.

Regiment lost during service 1 Enlisted man killed and 2 Officers and 72 Enlisted men by disease. Total 75.

44th Regiment Infantry

Organized at Madison, Wis., by Companies October-November, 1864, and ordered to Nashville, Tenn., as fast as completed. Companies "A," "B," "C," "D" and "F" reached Nashville during October and November. Battle of Nashville December 15-16. Attached to Post and Defenses of Nashville until March, 1865. Paducah, Ky., Dept. of Kentucky, to August, 1865.

SERVICE.--Garrison and guard duty at Nashville, Tenn., until March, 1865. Regimental organization completed February, 1865. Ordered to Paducah, Ky., April 3, and duty there until August. Mustered out August 28, 1865.

Regiment lost during service 1 Officer and 57 Enlisted men by disease. Total 58.

45th Regiment Infantry

Organized at Madison, Wis., November 8, 1864. Companies as organized ordered to Nashville, Tenn. Attached to Post of Nashville, Tenn., Dept. of the Cumberland, to February, 1865. 2nd Brigade, 4th Division, 20th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to March, 1865. Post of Nashville, Dept. of the Cumberland, to July, 1865.

SERVICE.--Garrison and guard duty at Nashville until July, 1865. Battle of Nashville December 15-16. Mustered out July 17, 1865.

46th Regiment Infantry

Organized at Madison, Wis., and mustered in March 2, 1865, Moved to Louisville, Ky., March 5-10, thence to Athens, Ala., April 22-24. Attached to 2nd Brigade, 1st Sub-District, District of Middle Tennessee, Dept. of the Cumberland.

SERVICE.--Duty along line of the Nashville & Decatur Railroad until September. Mustered out September 27, 1865.

47th Regiment Infantry

Organized at Madison, Wis., and mustered in February 27, 1865. Ordered to Louisville, Ky., thence to Nashville, Tenn., and Tullahoma, Tenn. Attached to 2nd Brigade, Defenses Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad, Dept. of the Cumberland, to April, 1865. 2nd Brigade, 1st Sub-District, District Middle Tennessee, Dept. of the Cumberland, to September, 1865.

SERVICE--Railroad guard duty at Tullahoma and in District of Middle Tennessee until September. Mustered out September 4, 1865.

48th Regiment Infantry

Organized at Milwaukee, Wis., February-March, 1865. Left State for St. Louis, Mo., March 22, thence moved to Warrenton and to Paola, Kan., April 1-13. Assigned to provost duty in District of Kansas as follows: "C" at Lawrence, "B" at Olatho, "F" and "G" at Paola, "A," "B," "D" and "E" at Fort Scott (skirmish near Miami, Mo., April 24, 1865) until August. Companies "I" and "K" left Milwaukee, Wis., March 28, and reached Fort Scott April 28. Moved to Lawrence August 19-25. March to Fort Zarah September 6-26, and assigned to garrison duty as follows: "E" and "G" at Fort Zarah, "A" and "H" at Fort Larned, "B" and "I" at Fort Dodge, "D" and "F" at Fort Aubrey, "C" and "K" at Fort Lyon, Colo., until December, 1865. "A," "E," "G" and "H" ordered to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., December, 1865, and mustered out December 30, 1865. "B," "D," "F" and "I" moved to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., February, 1866, and mustered out February 19, 1866. "C" and "K" mustered out at Fort Leavenworth March 24, 1866.

49th Regiment Infantry

Organized at Madison, Wis., December 24, 1864, to March 5, 1865. Left State for St. Louis, Mo., March 8, 1865, thence moved to Rolla, Mo., March 13. Garrison and guard duty at Rolla until August and at St. Louis, Mo., until November. Attached to 2nd Sub-District, District of St. Louis, Dept. of Missouri, March to August, and to 1st Sub-District to November. Mustered out November 8, 1865.

Regiment lost during service 54 by disease.

50th Regiment Infantry

Organized at Madison, Wis., March and April, 1865. Moved to St. Louis, Mo., thence from Benton Barracks (skirmishes near Booneville, Mo., May 3, 1865, Detachment) to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and to Fort Rice, D.T. Duty there until May, 1866. Mustered out April 19 to June 12, 1863.

Regiment lost during service 1 Enlisted man killed and 1 Officer and 43 Enlisted men by disease. Total 45.

51st Regiment Infantry

Organized at Camp Washburn, Milwaukee, Wis., March 20-April 29, 1865. (Cos. "G," "H," "I" and "K" did not leave the State and were mustered out May 6, 1865.) Moved to St. Louis, Mo., May, 1865, and assigned to duty at St. Louis, Warrensburg and along Pacific Railroad from Hilden to Pleasant Hill May to August. Company "A" at Crawford River; "B" at Carondelet; "C" and "D" at Kingville; "E" and "F" at Pleasant Hill. Mustered out at Madison, Wis., August 16-30, 1865.

Regiment lost during service 16 by disease.

52nd Regiment Infantry

Organized at Madison, Wis., April, 1865. Moved to St. Louis, Mo., thence to Holden, Mo., and guard workmen on the Pacific Railroad until June 21. Moved to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and duty there until July 28. Mustered out July 28, 1865.

Regiment lost during service 9 by disease.

53rd Regiment Infantry

Organized at Madison, Wis., March and April, 1865. Ordered to St. Louis, Mo., thence to Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Transferred to 51st Wisconsin Infantry June 10, 1865.
